JOY OLAGO (FURAHAS ART)

ARTIST

Joy Olago, known by her artistic alias Furahas Art, is a distinguished Kenyan artist immersed in the realms of abstract and impressionism styles. After completing a four-month certified course at the Nairobi Art Centre in 2018, Joy embarked on her art journey, using acrylics and mixed media to express her artistic vision. Her current focus lies in exploring and unraveling how society shapes identity and exploring the transformative power of mindset shifts.

Incorporating her Anthropology background, Joy’s earlier works reflect her deep interest in social issues, as well as a reflection on neo-colonialism with a focus on decolonizing the mind. Other pieces draw inspiration from natural beauty, everyday emotions, and her motto, “Colouring life.”

Joy began taking commissions and selling her paintings at local pop-up markets six months into her painting journey. Recognition swiftly followed, fueled by collaborations with fellow artists who left an indelible mark on her evolving style. Notably, Joy’s art has been featured in an interview on KTN, a national TV station, where she provided insightful interpretations of select paintings.

Joy’s vision extends beyond the canvas; she aspires to radicalize the art scene in Kenya and eventually Africa, firmly believing that art is not a luxury but a necessity in life. Her desire is for her art to serve as a catalyst for thought, encouraging people to appreciate the finer aspects of life.
